Who We Are

The short
version.

Who runs this site, and the privacy laws we follow.

Modus is a functional mushroom brand based in Victoria, British Columbia. We run trymodus.ca and ship to customers across Canada. In this policy, "Modus," "we," and "us" mean the business, and "you" means anyone who visits the site or buys from us.

We follow British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). When information crosses provincial or national borders, Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) applies as well.

We never sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We collect only what we need to run the store and look after your orders.

What We Collect

What we
keep on file.

Most of it you give us at checkout. Some comes from your browser, and some from the services that process your order.

Outside Canada

Some of these providers store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States and Europe. While it's there, the laws of that country apply, and authorities there may be able to access it. We choose providers with strong security and privacy practices, and you're welcome to ask us about any of them.

Cookies & Security

How we
look after it.

The cookies the site uses, how long we keep your information, and how we keep it safe.

Cookies

Cookies are small files your browser saves for a website. Ours keep your bag and sign-in working, remember your settings, help our payment providers spot fraud, and show us how the site is used.

We don't use advertising cookies. If that changes, we'll update this page and give you a way to opt out. You can block or clear cookies in your browser settings, though your bag and checkout won't work without them.

How long we keep it

Orders and payments

Six years, as the Canada Revenue Agency requires.

Your account

While it's open, and for a reasonable time after in case you need help with an order.

Newsletter

Until you unsubscribe.

Site visits

Kept as totals and trends that don't identify you.

When we no longer need something, we delete or destroy it securely.

Keeping it safe

The site is encrypted with SSL, payments run through PCI DSS compliant providers, and access to the store's back end and inbox is password protected and limited to Modus.

If a breach ever puts you at real risk of significant harm, we'll tell you and the privacy commissioner, as the law requires.
